Lynn Katsafouros is a painter and illustrator. She received a BA in illustration from Syracuse University and an MFA in fine arts from The New York Academy of Art. She was represented by the Hall-Barnett Gallery in New Orleans from 1990 to 1994 and her work hangs in many private collections as well as in the landmark New Orleans hotel, Soniat House.
Following a long hiatus, Katsafouros returned to painting several years ago with a renewed focus on the human figure. Her figures, imaginary portraits drawn from life, invest the formal elements of line, color, and simple geometric shapes with a gently insistent humanity. These oil paintings occupy a compelling realm between the real and the surreal, offering viewers an evident if enigmatic narrative that engages the viewer on numerous levels.
