I started painting this series of gouache/watercolors in earnest while spending an extended time in Rome last winter. After the Covid onset and returning home, I continued this series.
Rome is quiet in the winter. The arc of the umbrella pine over the barely visible figure and long winter shadows combine to feel like a late afternoon in a Roman park.

In winter, the parks return to the Romans to enjoy.
Summer on Deer isle is one of themes explored in this body of watercolors. Our jack Russell is frequently nearby mending a presence to the compositions.
Walking in the rain is a frequent activity on the Maine coast. The artist has conveyed through the lively folds of the polka dot coat the movement of the walker and the muted landscape.

My watercolor paintings embody qualities that are increasingly important to me. They rely on relationships of simplified form and space while employing color as a means of expression.

Siskind’s collages resonate with bold graphic structures and subtle psychological undercurrents. Shapes and patterns emerge like puzzle pieces creating encounters between figure and ground.

My work is an exploration of surface, distinctive in its execution. Positioned firmly in the realm of representation, I imagine a fusion between the narrative and abstraction.
