Wendy Shalen
Over time, my work varies from landscapes of crisply representational pastels to more abstract works, including those made of encaustic on wood panels, and pigmented cotton or paper pulp. Recently, I have begun working with glass panels that are either sandblasted and drawn on, impressionistically painted using glass powdered frit or layered with shapes of colored glass and then fired and fused in a glass kiln. I am excited about exploring techniques of kiln-formed glass but am grounded by being surrounded by nature and love to represent its beauty both abstractly and realistically.
“Especially during these times, I am lucky to live in such a peaceful place, to have the time to respond to nature, to always experiment and to share my love of making and enjoying art with others.” -from an artist statement
